For Immediate Release

LWML Convention will be held in Mobile, Alabama, on June 20-23, 2019

ST. LOUIS, September 30, 2016 -- The 38th Biennial Lutheran Women's Missionary League Convention will be held Thursday, June 20-Sunday, June 23, 2019, at the Mobile Convention Center in Mobile, Alabama. This is a change of location and date to what was previously announced for the 2019 LWML Convention.

LWML President Patti Ross stated, "We were unable to contract with Birmingham convention officials for a convention that our women could afford. We are disappointed since we looked forward to going to Birmingham, but we are pleased Mobile has stepped forward to work with us."

In further news, the LWML Louisiana-Mississippi District has signed on as a third hosting district, joining LWML Gulf States, and LWML Florida-Georgia as the districts hosting the convention in Mobile.

President Ross said, "We look forward to the planning of another great convention with the selection of new mission grants, new officers, and inspiration from mission speakers. We encourage everyone to mark their calendars to reserve this date in 2019 and we'll see you in Mobile!"

LWML 2017 Convention Moves to Albuquerque

The 37th Biennial Lutheran Women's Missionary League Convention will be held Thursday, June 22-Sunday, June 25, 2017, at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

After ongoing difficulties finalizing contracts in Salt Lake City, the LWML Executive Committee met in emergency session and voted to change the site of the 2017 convention to Albuquerque with the same dates of June 22-25, 2017.

LWML President Patti Ross stated, "We are happy this location remains in the hosting districts that are working so hard on our 2017 Convention with our 75th Anniversary celebration. The move will not change convention programming. We continue with the exciting business of selecting mission grants, new officers, hearing great speakers, and celebrating God's blessings received and shared by the LWML over our 75 year history."

The theme for the convention is "Jesus Christ Above All." The logo and the convention theme are based on the Scripture verse from Philippians 2:9, Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name.

LWML Reveals Logo for the 2017 Convention

The convention logo for the 37th Biennial Lutheran Women's Missionary League Convention was created by graphic designer Nichelle Dykema of Boise, Idaho. The theme for the convention is: "Jesus Christ Above All." The logo and the convention theme are based on the Scripture verse from Philippians 2:9. Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name.

In the logo, the simple yet powerful design allows the viewer to find personal inspiration. The strong vertical lines may represent tall western mountain ranges, compass points, or skyscrapers. The cross, in royal purple, evokes Jesus as King, above all of man's striving for the heavens, while the blue lines embody sky and sea - Jesus rules even the earth. The vertical lines are broken by the word Jesus Christ, reminding us that Jesus is not only above all things, but in all things.

The LWML Convention will be held Thursday, June 22-Sunday, June 25, 2017, at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The goal statement for the convention is: Empowered by the Holy Spirit, through Word and Sacrament, I will proclaim Jesus Christ above all.

Convention attendees will have the opportunity to be encouraged through worship and Bible study; equipped to share His message of salvation; and engaged in celebrating God's faithfulness and serving the Lord with gladness.

LWML Past President Ida Mall will be the keynote speaker, the LCMS President will be the proclaimer at the opening worship service, Rev. Allen Anderson, LCMS Rocky Mountain District President will be the proclaimer at the closing worship service, Deaconess Betty Knapp will be the Bible study leader, Wendysue Fluegge will be the song leader, and Jan Struck will provide humorous interruptions as Katie Luther.

LWML Reveals 75th Anniversary Logo

The LWML is issuing a special invitation to come to Salt Lake City to celebrate 75 years (1942-2017) of God's blessings. Special exhibits and a 75th Anniversary Diamond Dazzle event on the Saturday night during convention will highlight the past and look toward the future.

A LWML 75th Anniversary logo was created to commemorate this special occasion. It was created by graphic designer Amy Gill of Phoenix, Arizona. The logo represents the many facets of LWML, the faces of women throughout the ages, that have been placed together to reflect the Light of Christ to the world. Celebrating 75 years and going strong, we thank God, our Rock and our Salvation.
